A 1990 Los Alamos National Laboratory letter confirmed that the lab issued him a Z number for that company, while finding no laboratory personnel or medical file for him. These records support a Los Alamos connection. They do not establish his claimed duties, academic credentials, or later story about S-4 near Area 51.

The 1982 directory and the 1990 reply

Lazar’s request for his personnel file and the lab’s reply are preserved together in the document archive. The April 1990 reply says a security-record search found a Z number issued on May 18, 1982, for Kirk-Mayer. It also says the 1982 phone directory identified Lazar as a Kirk-Mayer employee. The lab directed him to the contractor for further employment information.

That distinction matters. “No laboratory personnel record found” does not mean “never entered Los Alamos.” Equally, a directory entry and access number are not evidence that Lazar was a lab physicist or that he later worked on a recovered craft. The unresolved document is a contractor employment record that states his role and dates.

What about the newspaper description of a physicist?

A June 27, 1982 Los Alamos Monitor story about Lazar’s jet-powered car calls him a physicist at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility. It is evidence that the description was in print at the time. The article does not show how the reporter verified his job title, degree or employer, and the lab letter does not confirm them. The directory, the newspaper and the lab reply answer different questions; combining them into a single proof of Lazar’s later claims overstates the record.

Do Area 51 and element 115 settle the S-4 claim?

No. The CIA’s history of the U-2 program documents classified aircraft work at Area 51. It does not document Lazar’s alleged S-4 assignment or alien craft. Element 115, now named moscovium, was synthesized and named by scientists; the IUPAC naming announcement does not verify Lazar’s claim that a stable isotope powered a spacecraft.

Lazar has repeated his account for decades, and people can reasonably disagree about how to weigh testimony. The documentary question is more specific: is there an independently checkable record connecting him to S-4, the alleged craft or a sample of the material he described? None of the documents above makes that connection. The Los Alamos trail is real, but its evidentiary reach ends well before S-4.

See our full Bob Lazar investigation for the source-by-source audit. For current coverage of his media appearances, read our separate documentary and interview report.

A Los Alamos directory and laboratory letter confirm Bob Lazar’s contractor connection.
